Year

[edit]

If this is the only rally known as Bersih 2.0, why do we need the 2011? It should be either the 2007 Bersih rally and 2011 Bersih rally, or the Bersih rally and Bersih 2.0 rally. The359 (Talk) 09:14, 9 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Good question, that was my first thought, but now I think they are hoping the action won't just come once in 4 years, like elections in some countries, but rather, that organizers are hoping for an ongoing challenge on the streets - whereby they can number events 2.1 to 2.9 han ha. wo maybe ti's a good idea and catchy like Y2k was 11 years ago?--Robbygay (talk) 00:25, 12 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Pictures

[edit]

Does anyone have pictures of the rally? If no, I will try to ask a friend if she can allow us to use her pictures... Bejinhan talks 04:05, 10 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

That would be great! — Yk3 talk ~ contrib 06:06, 10 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

There are a great many good pictures on a blog named http://www.jamieliew.com/2011/07/the-bersih-rally/ as a blog should be free of copyright problems? I also read somewhere there was 1 death reported. Perhaps first section deserves that added to a corrected afficial arrest number (I think I read 1643 people arrested and a number like 16 held?)--Robbygay (talk) 00:40, 12 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Malaysian Students in Australia

[edit]

The article is horribly redundant. The paragraph dealing with their demands repeats various demands as many as three times, yet introduces them as if they are new each time. Also, the paragraph in regards to Australian students is very ambiguous: which government requests that students not partake in rallies? The Australian or Malay government?

Wdwrx (talk) 15:39, 10 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Your complaint is rather harsh as the event only ended a couple of days ago as news emerged, anyhow Oxford Dictionary describes "redundant as "not needed or useful", but personally I enjoyed the read for it's completeness and accuracy as i read the news when happening? I don't find it "not needed or useful" at all.--Robbygay (talk) 00:49, 12 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Bersih 2.0 Solidarity Rallies around the globe

[edit]

The current wikipedia article did not mention that at about the same time solidarity rallies in support of Bersih 2.0 were also held in several countries. These were organised by Malaysians living abroad. In addition to the 8 demands by Bersih 2.0, a ninth demand was also added i.e. suffrage for Malaysians living abroad.

News reports of these are as follows:

Below are among the many personal accounts of Bersih 2.0 overseas supporters:

Good Article

[edit]

Why is the article rated Start-Class? Reading the introduction and quickly overviewing the rest, the article seems rather excellent to me.
